Chartered in 1978, the AIC Arkansas Chapter has through the years been an outstanding example of excellence for other AIC chapters to follow. We have developed programs and events to encourage and support young people in their pursuit of construction as a career as well as recognition of local constructors for their professionalism and contribution to the industry. Arkansas has also contributed its share of leaders to the National AIC with two past presidents having come from the Arkansas Chapter, Robert Nabholz (deceased) - 1981 and L. A. Kinnaman, FAIC - 1987. Attesting to the professionalism of chapter members and local educators are the many who received National AIC awards including: L. A. Kinnaman, Hoyt Monroe, Robert Nabholz, Phillip Joiner, Debbie King, Devon Hobby, Bill Hannah, Michael O’Dea, Lee Niles, Ray Echols, Steve Russell and Brian Strickland.

The Arkansas Chapter of AIC provides the ideal opportunity for professionals to network with one another! AIC-Arkansas Chapter holds membership meetings during the year featuring guest speakers, construction site tours and dinners with networking time. Future site tours may include:

The Clinton Library

Immanuel Baptist Church

Dining Hall @ Camp Aldersgate

LEED Project

Yearly, the Arkansas Chapter sponsors a daylong “CONSTRUCTOR FOR A DAY” event. Construction Management students from UALR, John Brown University, & University of Louisiana at Monroe are invited for a special lunch. After a short program recognizing each University and naming scholarship winners, students are then taken on jobsite tours.

One meeting each year features a family oriented Cook-Out. Typically board members gather at a favorite park pavilion with grills and aprons and do the cooking. As many as 100 have gathered for this event.

The December meeting is set aside for a Christmas Party and an Auction for Charity. In June of each year the “Installation of Officers & Awards Banquet” is held. Officers for the upcoming year are installed and awards are bestowed on outstanding members. In May, the Annual Golf Tournament is held to raise funds for the “$1,000 Phyllis Kinnaman Memorial Scholarship” and the “$500 Phillip Joiner Memorial Scholarship”. Scholarships are given to students who submit reports addressing current concerns of the construction industry. All reports are judged and two winners declared.

Each year the “Constructor of the Year” award is presented to a member of AIC who represents the organization on the local and national level, who represents the construction industry in a positive manner and who is also involved in the community.
