Constructor
Certification Commission Presentation
Presented at the 39th Annual International Conference
Associated Schools of Construction -
Clemson University (April
10, 2003) |
| I’ve
known Roger Liska for many years now. When he asked me to be today’s
speaker, I took the easy way out and asked him “What do you
want me to say?” He said, “Talk about Certification.
Tell them how it can help them.” |

Bid
Shopping and Bid Peddling:
It may be legal. But it’s certainly not ethical! |
In
1995, the Associate
General Contractors of America, the American
Subcontractors Association, and the Associated
Specialty Contractors issued this joint statement on the
issue of bid shopping and bid peddling:
“Bid
shopping or bid peddling are abhorrent business practices that
threaten the integrity of the competitive bidding system that
serves the construction industry and the economy so well. |

| Address
before the American Council for Construction Education |
| I
would like to begin by telling you a story that I first heard at
my church about young boy who was moved from foster home to foster
home. Like many who come from this lifestyle, he didn’t receive
the care and attention of his natural parents. He was a discipline
problem. He was a behavioral problem. He wasn’t a good student.
And he was unchurched. |

| The
Future of Workforce Development: Professionalism through Education,
Teamwork, and Lifelong Learning |
| The
future of the construction industry hinges on our workforce. Many
well-respected industry sources are beginning to sound the alarm
to focus our attention on the future of workforce development.
Their message is clear: If we expect to attract and keep
good people in construction, we must improve the construction industry’s
image and we must do it quickly. |

Prove
Yourself: Take the Test |
Not
willing to sit for a professional-level exam? Then imagine yourself
as an accomplished professional who's successfully completed hundreds
of construction projects and who's now being called as an expert
witness. Imagine, too, that the judge discounts your testimony because
he recognizes the architect and the engineer as the only "professionals"
who testified. |
