The Pfister Hotel opened its doors on May 1, 1893, the culmination of a dream by Milwaukee businessman Guido Pfister and his son, Charles, to build a“ Grand Hotel of the West,” a place that would act as Milwaukee’s grand salon welcoming guests and neighbors alike. The Pfister was the most expensive hotel constructed during its time at a cost of more than $1 million. In 1962 the Pfister was renovated to its original elegance and a new 23-story tower was added to this grand hotel. The Pfister has been accepted in Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
