Winner of the AIC Chapter Excellence Award in 1999, 2000 and 2001, the Northern Ohio Chapter of the American Institute of Constructors based in Cleveland, Ohio. We have maintained an active education schedule as well as innovative programs to attract and support students in construction education. One of our more popular events is the Annual Poor Man's Dinner Raffle now in its 21st year which attracted more than 250 people in 2005. The Poor Man's Raffle is the primary fund raiser for the chapter's on-going scholarship fund. The chapter annually awards $1,250 scholarships to each of the areas AIC student chapters. Excellent educational programming has proven to be a major asset for our chapter. Monthly chapter meetings are a mix of breakfast and dinner sessions that utilize the expertise of local constructors and affiliated industry professionals. Topics range from the benefits of an intra-company project management network to the current trends in the construction bonding industry and a presentation by NASA on the construction of the space station. Getting members involved is always a challenge for any association. But our chapter does not have any problems when it comes to participation in the Constructor-for-a-Day, which we co-sponsor with the Cleveland Chapter of the Ohio Contractors Association This citywide program brings together students interested in a construction career and allows them to see what a Constructor does on a daily basis through tours and one-on-one discussions. With approximately 100 chapter members, our chapter finds the services of Executive Secretary Rose Giallanza essential for chapter growth and for quality of services. Our chapter also benefits from the support of past AIC national presidents Bruce Gilbert, FAIC (1982), Albert Culbertson, FAIC (1985), and Allen Crowley, AIC (1995). Chapter President Bernie Ashyk (2006-2008) and the board looks forward to seeing you at the next Chapter function.
